Phan: Blood Vessel [Part 23]

He did not visit her for a week; he thought it was best to let her calm before returning to ask her once more what happened that night.
Bending down, he brushed aside loose strands of hair from Dan's forehead before kissing his temple; he had fallen asleep in Phil's arms and now he was leaving him to dream as he left their apartment and darted through the streets to the hospital.

She watched him leave with a devilish grin; she had been waiting for this opportunity for a week and it had now presented itself, much to her delight.
Slinking out from the park's many bushes, she made her way silently to the side of the apartment block, checking to make sure no one could see her before she darted quickly up the walls.

Taking her hand in his, he sat beside her bed like he had done before on other nights, his thumb rubbing the back of her frail hand. Again, his eyes watched the bite marks on her neck and could not help but be reminded of the monster that he was.
"Chloe..." he whispered, reaching out to tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear, "Chloe, wake up."
She stirred ever so slightly before opening her eyes, his hypnotic voice waking her from her dream. She looked over at him with a glaze over her eyes; he was putting her under his spell to ensure she would not scream again.
"What happened that night Chloe?" he asked softly, his eyes now locked with hers as he continued to caress the back of her hand with his thumb. She stared back at him and paused before whispering, "She attacked me. She bit me. She drank my blood."
Phil could already feel the dread seeping into his blood, "Who Chloe?"
"I don't know her name," came the horse reply, "But her eyes turned from blue to red and glowed in the dark."
Phil felt sick as he thanked Chloe and stood to leave. She nodded before closing her eyes and falling asleep as if nothing had happened and he darted back out into the night.

It was not hard, she soon found out, to break into someone's flat; the balcony doors were easy to open and she did so without fault.
Silently slipping into the apartment, she looked around, studying everything she saw but found nothing of high interest before she came across one of the bedrooms doors. It was closed and she opened it carefully, another grin appearing on her face as she noticed the bundle sleeping beneath the covers.

His heart was pounding, something it did not do often, as he rushed back to the apartment. She was back and had been the one causing the recent attacks, he realized, and now he was worried, scared even.
What if his nightmares came true?
